QUEEN ELIZABETH II PASSES AWAY AT 96
Queen Elizabeth II, the UK´s longest-serving monarch, died at her Scottish state of Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
All the Queen´s children travelled to Scotland after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision. Her grandson and now heir to the throne, Prince William, and his brother, Prince Harry, also gathered there.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change. Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill and including Ms Truss.
The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926. At age 10, she became heir to the throne, as her father became King George VI. In 1952, after her father's death she was proclaimed declaring her the new Queen, although she was crowned at Wensminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, aged 27.
Condolences have been pouring in from all over the world. She was a source of strength and confidence for her country. Her commitment and dignity as a statewoman during her decades on the throne will remain forever.
Good-bye Ma'am

SHAKESPEARE IN CHICAGO
A review of the play, by Gabriel Cobarrubias - 4ºB
Shakespeare in Chicago is a play in which a brother and a sister involved in a crime end up stealing a pile of books instead of the stash of money they were aiming for. In a desperate attempt to sell the books and earn some money, they end up acting out the plays they find in a particularly large book written by William Shakespeare.
It starts off with the two main characters introducing themselves, the older sister with a more serious and mature approach and the younger brother with a loose, flashy personality. The play is a comedy, so there are lots of joke and humoristic touches. After having robbed what they thought was a stash of money, they are chased by the police, but manage to escape. They settle somewhere in Chicago and are greatly disappointed when they find a large book written by Shakespeare with many of his plays. They act them out in different ways, trying to sell the book. It ends when the sister starts acting out a play that the brother finds unbearable over and over again, despite his pleading, and he shoots her.
The play exceeded my expectations. It was entertaining, amusing, funny and interactive with the audience. The set could have been better but overall it was very nicely done.

VIDEO PRESENTATIONS ONFLIPGRID (EVENING STUDENTS)
As teachers, we want to maximise our students' learning experiences. Presentations offer students the opportunity to use all their language skills and improve their confidence. They also help them become better communicators by making them aware of the importance of being informative and entertaining at the same time.
In these time of COVID when working in class is quite complicated, platforms such as FLIPGRID are useful tools to continue using presentations. The practice is not the same but the platform offers other benefits, such as the chance to master technology and ICT in a very easy and productive way.
Please watch how well some of our students do! So proud of you!!

WORD CRIMES - Yankovic
"WORD CRIMES" is a song by American musician "Weird Al" Yankovic from his fourteenth studio album "Mandatory Fun"(2014).
Yankovic has considered himself a "grammar nerd", having previously posted videos clips and photos to social media sites pointing out grammatical errors in everyday signs. He considered "Word Crimes" his opportunity to put this into song form. He considered his song to be both humorously critical of those that have poor grammar, as well as those who are obsessive about grammar.
You will probably know the song, as it is a few years old, but I have always liked it, so I thought of publishing it here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

ENJOY THE JOURNEY OF LEARNING
A small group of IES Goya students are ready to live an unprecedented multicultural experience and discover the wonders of the world.
Guided by Nuria Calvo, teacher of our English Department, our students will be connecting on Flipgrid with students from Japan, Turkey, USA, Portugal, the UK, Canada and Russia throughout this academic year. A great opportunity to build up their skills and interact with students learning the language in other parts of the world. And they'll also have the responsibility of being our ambassadors in remote parts of the world such as the Siberian tundra!
All this, using English as a vehicular language. The journey has already begun....
Stay tuned
