BE A LADY, THEY SAID

Girls, Girls, Girls magazine released  a video titled "Be a Lady, they said" featuring actress Cynthia Nixon, reading a prose-poetry piece by Camille Rainville.

The video, which was released the same day that Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault, collected more than 300,000 views in one day. It was lauded online for conveying conflicting demands on women.

In the video, Nixon´s tone gets progressively angrier as she describes the preassure on women to live for the service of men. From what women look, to how women interact with others, the video covers the many conflicting ways in which we are expected to present ourselves to the world

The video, directed by  Paul McLean, is a disturbingly powerful watch.

Watch it  now.

What do you think? Does it present a real perception of the treatment of women or is it an outdated 1950s stereotype what it shows?  Food for thought .....
