A review of the play, by Gabriel Cobarrubias - 4ºB
Shakespeare in Chicago is a play in which a brother and a sister involved in a crime end up stealing a pile of books instead of the stash of money they were aiming for. In a desperate attempt to sell the books and earn some money, they end up acting out the plays they find in a particularly large book written by William Shakespeare.
It starts off with the two main characters introducing themselves, the older sister with a more serious and mature approach and the younger brother with a loose, flashy personality. The play is a comedy, so there are lots of joke and humoristic touches. After having robbed what they thought was a stash of money, they are chased by the police, but manage to escape. They settle somewhere in Chicago and are greatly disappointed when they find a large book written by Shakespeare with many of his plays. They act them out in different ways, trying to sell the book. It ends when the sister starts acting out a play that the brother finds unbearable over and over again, despite his pleading, and he shoots her.
The play exceeded my expectations. It was entertaining, amusing, funny and interactive with the audience. The set could have been better but overall it was very nicely done.
As teachers, we want to maximise our students' learning experiences. Presentations offer students the opportunity to use all their language skills and improve their confidence. They also help them become better communicators by making them aware of the importance of being informative and entertaining at the same time.
In these time of COVID when working in class is quite complicated, platforms such as FLIPGRID are useful tools to continue using presentations. The practice is not the same but the platform offers other benefits, such as the chance to master technology and ICT in a very easy and productive way.
Please watch how well some of our students do! So proud of you!!
